About Dayton Public Schools
Dayton Public Schools is an urban district serving more than 13,000 students from preschool through high school. Neighborhood schools provide the ordinary entry point, while citywide options such as Stivers School for the Arts, Thurgood Marshall STEM High School, career-technical programs, and alternative settings serve students seeking or needing a different environment. Address, program purpose, and grade span all shape a student’s route.
At the high-school level, Ford Next Generation Learning academies organize parts of the regular school day around industry themes, projects, employers, and postsecondary planning. These academies operate inside comprehensive high schools and influence schedules, projects, and pathway choices.
A board-approved reconfiguration took effect in 2026–27 and changed several grade spans and feeder relationships, including adding sixth grade to three standalone middle schools, consolidating alternative programming, and introducing a cluster feeder model. That date belongs in any current description because older maps may no longer match a student’s assignment. Across those changes, Dayton continues to combine neighborhood access, specialized citywide schools, and career pathways embedded in the secondary years.
