About Delaware City Schools
Delaware City Schools serves a county-seat community where an established downtown, Ohio Wesleyan University, older residential areas, and continued growth from the Columbus region meet. Five elementary schools serve children through grade five, followed by John C. Dempsey Middle School and Rutherford B. Hayes High School. With one districtwide building at each secondary level, arts, athletics, advanced courses, clubs, career exploration, and student services can be organized around a common schedule. Preschool classrooms in the elementary network provide an earlier point of contact for some families.
The city itself enters school life through public events and partnerships, including connections with Ohio Wesleyan. Visual and performing arts remain visible from the elementary years through high school, while older students gain access to college-credit and career opportunities. Dempsey and Hayes function as both schools and public institutions for a changing county-seat community.
