Elyria City Schools Calendar 2026-2027

Elyria remade much of its public-school landscape when five major new facilities opened in 2020 and 2021. The rebuilding changed where children learn and how age groups share space. The result is a network that combines standalone elementary schools with larger buildings serving children from preschool through middle school.

Ely and Hamilton serve the elementary years, while Eastern Heights, Northwood, and Westwood contain separate elementary and middle-school communities within shared sites. Younger students generally learn in kindergarten through grade four settings, and the middle level serves grades five through eight. Students from across these routes eventually come together at Elyria High School. The shared PK–8 sites can allow siblings of different ages to remain connected to one location, while the standalone elementary schools preserve a more traditional early-grade experience.

The new buildings have created a common modern foundation for arts, technology, athletics, student services, and community use. Elyria also serves families with varied economic, cultural, and learning needs, making support systems as important as specialized coursework. The district’s character lies in how an older city has reorganized public education without erasing neighborhood identity: several early-grade environments remain, middle-school life is embedded in three community sites, and one high school gathers the city into a shared Pioneer tradition.
