About Kings Local School District

Kings Local School District serves the Kings Mills and Landen area through three K–4 elementary schools. Students first come together at Columbia Intermediate for grades five and six, continue to Kings Junior High for grades seven and eight, and enter Kings High School in grade nine. Preschool is a separate early entry point before the ordinary elementary sequence.

Columbia is more than an added building between elementary and junior high. It gives children from three attendance areas two years to form a common cohort before another transition after sixth grade. The same students then move through one junior high and one comprehensive high school, so the elementary split no longer shapes the later route. Kings High concentrates advanced courses, College Credit Plus, arts, athletics, clubs, and career planning. The cluster of transitions between grades four and eight is a visible part of school life: students change buildings twice in four years, but they do so with an increasingly familiar districtwide peer group.
