Lakewood City School District Calendar 2028-2029

Lakewood City Schools operates within a compact inner-ring suburb where school buildings are closely connected to neighborhood and civic life. During the 2026–27 school year, seven elementary schools serve kindergarten through grade five, preserving several walkable local entry points. Students then attend Garfield or Harding Middle School for grades six through eight, and Lakewood High becomes the districtwide destination in grade nine.

Lakewood High brings together students from across the city and contains much of the system’s later specialization. Advanced coursework, West Shore career-technical programs, performing arts, athletics, and student organizations operate within or alongside the comprehensive school; the district has no parallel high-school campus. Multilingual services also extend across the regular network in a city where many home languages are represented.

An approved elementary transition will change this map in 2027–28. Lincoln Elementary is scheduled to become the Lakewood City Schools Early Learning Center, six elementary schools will remain as K–5 attendance schools, and boundaries and several specialized classrooms will be reassigned. Those changes are being prepared during 2026–27 but do not yet replace the current seven-school assignments. Families need to distinguish the elementary network now in use from the already approved configuration for the following school year.
