About Youngstown City School District
Youngstown’s biggest change for 2026–27 is the end of the old East-versus-Chaney secondary split. Harding, Martin Luther King Jr., Paul C. Bunn, Taft, and Volney Rogers elementary schools now feed Youngstown Middle School and Youngstown High School. The district combined the former Chaney and East middle- and high-school systems at the East sites and introduced the Defenders identity.
Rayen Early College remains a separate application pathway. Its middle school prepares students for Youngstown Rayen Early College High School, where scholars may work toward both a high-school diploma and college credit.
Choffin Career & Technical Center provides career training. Wilson Alternative School serves students assigned to a different support setting, while the Virtual Academy uses a separate online-enrollment process. These programs operate alongside the unified traditional route. Because 2026–27 is the first year of the reconfiguration, transportation and daily operating details remain time-sensitive.
